The Russian Sirins, not to be confused with the Greek sirens, were creatures that were a bit of an irony. Only the truly happy could see them and hear their song, but once the song entered their head, that person would forget all worldly things and ultimately waste away from forgetting to eat and drink. Seeing a sirin was considered rare as human happiness was quite rare.
